Duds – Henry C Rowland – 1920

Description:

Duds, by Henry C. Rowland, has for its here an agreeable and handsome youth who possessed talent which amounted almost to a genius for getting himself mixed up in the unfortunate affairs of others, and this not long before had got himself into serious trouble. In the very first chapter he rescues a fascinating young woman from a near capture in a police raid in a shabby quarter in Brooklyn. Then the scene shifts to New York City where the hero meets the girl’s father, a dealer in jewels and antiques, and being at the time a jobless and needy ex-society leader, he suddenly finds himself in the midst of thrilling intrigues being carried on by a gang of international crooks. Another young and lovely woman comes into the story, together with a host of lesser lights and presently ones interest becomes so involved and piqued that in the tangle of things which follow, it is hard to tell who is who.
