The Searchers – J Foster – 1920

Description:

The Searchers, by John Foster, with Scotland for its background, is concerned with the fortunes of a house which bore about it the fine craftsmanship of the fifteenth century and with “strange affairs, meetings with crafty and violent men, stratagems and spoils.” To begin with it involves a hunt for world famous jewels and the efforts of a band of cutthroats to find their hiding place. A partial clue, in the form of an old piece of torn parchment leads the hunt to Scotland where the desperadoes encounter a secret service agent, who is a freelance and a natural hunter of men and animals. In the melodramatic incidents which follow, there are thrilling situations galore which call forth cool nerve, daring and ready wit on the part of the characters. Those to whom adventure and the lure of treasure-trove mean much will find some blissful hours of recreation in these swiftly moving pages.
